Cape Town Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Simon's Town is about 35 minutes south of Cape Town on the False Bay side of the Cape Peninsula. Simon's Town Bay faces north, which helps protect the town and beaches from the strong summer southeast winds, a feature of life in the Western Cape. Its waters are calm, warm and shallow, unlike the South Atlantic coast, and are ideal for a wide range of water activities. Simon's Town is steeped in history dating back to the early Dutch and British settlements. The area known as the "Historic Mile", the heart of the town, boasts a great variety of architecturally interesting buildings. A fine nautical museum details the town's history and another recreates its naval roots. History and the magnificent natural setting of mountain and sea make Simon's Town unique in South Africa. Simon's Town is home to a number of good restaurants (seafood is the specialty), antique shops, fine walks, and other visitors' services. The sea and beaches remain the greatest attractions of Simon's Town for many. The secluded, sandy beaches invite swimming and sunbathing through most of the year. Boulders Beach, home to one of only two colonies of jackass penguins in the world, is a favourite of all.

Cape Town is packed with so many different things to do and see, most of which will keep you absorbed for up to a whole day at a time, and you may even have to go back again! One such place is Simon's Town on the Cape Peninsula. Don't worry, if you have to extend your stay, there are many welcoming Cape Town hotels where you can enjoy some extra time.
